Craft Project - Easy To Make Beaded Snowflake Ornaments

If you are looking for a craft project that you can make with older children, I think this one will suit your needs. You will need to go to your local craft store and purchase a few items but other than that, they are pretty simple.

We made 14 of these ornaments and it cost us less than $10.00 because I already had paint and glue on hand. This is a great project to do with children ages 5 and over with adult supervision. We like to do this project with school groups, scouting troops and with youth groups at church. If you are doing the project as a group projects, you will need to have a few adults on hand to help.

Here are the materials that you will need.

1" diameter flat back round shaped cork disk

acrylic paint to match one of your bead colors

inexpensive paint brush

all-purpose quick-drying liquid craft glue

sharp scissors

6 (1 1/2" long) straight pins with little pearl-style heads

1 package 4 mm faceted plastic round beads

1 package plastic tri-beads

2 flat back rhinestone jewelry findings

4" piece gold metallic cord (hanger)

old newspapers

several paper towels

water dish

Note: Since you will be doing a little painting, lay several layers of old newspaper down onto your work surface. Use the paper towels and water dish to clean your paint brush.

Step 1: Paint your front side and sides of your round cork and let dry for 15 minutes before flipping it over to paint the back side, then let dry for an additional 15 minutes.

Step 2: Thread a faceted round bead, a tri-bead and another faceted round bead onto your straight pin until you have a total of 5 beads on your pin. Dip the pointed end of the pin into liquid all-purpose craft glue and jab the pin into the side of your cork disk. You will need to do this step until your snowflake has 6 spokes, let dry thoroughly before proceeding to the next step.

Step 3: Using liquid craft glue, attach a rhinestone to the center of your cork on each side, we used clear ones with little gold-tone bezels. Using a 4" piece of gold metallic cord, tie it around one of your spokes with a knot to form a hanging loop.

Let your snowflake ornaments dry for a few hours. Once they are dry, you can hang them onto your holiday tree, on wreaths, on garlands or purchase some suction cups and stick them to your windows and mirrors.
